Truth Held Hostage

Scripture Ref. Romans 1:18 (KJV)
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Romans 1:18 (NKJV)
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

Greek Word: κατέχω
Transliteration: katechō – two words meaning to “hold down” or “to suppress”.

We are seeing in America today a frightening trend. It is a weapon or ploy which Satan has used since day one against the Kingdom of God. And the situation I am referring to is the “Hostage taking of Truth”!

Truth stands as a strong bulwark or battling ram against all which is ungodly and just. Truth is absolute and eternal; it has no gray areas neither can be turned into some alloy which can be mixed with uncertainties and error. So the only alternative enemies of truth can do to conquer it is to attempt to hold it hostage so as to keep it out of view and hidden from unsuspecting eyes.

If you believe in the liberating power of truth then you better stand for it, declare it, and uncover it every time you see someone or some situation attempting to grab it and hold it hostage. Because the only hope for America to continue to be the land of the free, and the only hope for revival in the church of Christ, is the declaration of truth for sea to shining sea and from pulpit to God exulting pulpit!

I. Truth Hostage by Distortion

    Distortion means the bending, twisting, or altering of the original. And we are seeing this kind of situation on a massive scale today and of unparallel proportions. We see it by politicians, the media, and behind pulpits all over this nation.

II. Truth is Held Hostage by Redefinition

    It has become common place today if somebody doesn’t like the meaning of something simply because it makes them uncomfortable or incriminates them by the law; all they need to do is redefine the meaning of the truth which is causing them the trouble.

III. Truth is Held Hostage by Intimidation

    There are those who know the truth about situations but they allow themselves to be intimidated by the  hatred and biased actions of those who oppose the real truth. The Apostles were good examples of not allowing themselves to be intimidated by religious and political leaders of their day, even though they suffered greatly for their refusal.
